Visual Storytelling

Visual Storytelling
The class will teach you storytelling techniques enabling you to create, design and produce stories using digital media. Students write and storyboard narratives, create still and moving images using music and narration to tell their stories illustrating projects limited to 3 minutes in length or less. You will learn the elements of Visual Storytelling in class, edit exercises and projects on your home computer and share them in class and online for critique and evaluation. The class is based upon the film 'La Jetee', produced and directed by Chris Marker, who used still photographs, narration, sound effects and music to tell the story. This brilliant film is the model for "Twelve Monkeys" directed by Terry Gilliam, starring Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe, Brad Pitt, and Christopher Plummer. The instructor will provide materials to assist students in creating their projects, scripting, storyboarding, selection of images and basic editing techniques.

*Students must have access to a digital still camera and a PC or Mac at home.

Instructor: Richard Martin, Award winning producer, editor and writer. His credits include works on ABC, and Entertainment Tonight.
