How to Apply to the ECE Program

How to Apply for Admission to the
Undergraduate Early Childhood Education Program
(Bachelor of Science Degree, New York State Initial Teacher Certification)

1. Maintain a 2.8 grade point average

2. Take each of the following courses and pass it with a grade of A, B, or C (C-grades are not accepted):

o Writing for Interdisciplinary Studies 1 (IAS 10000)
o Writing for Interdisciplinary Studies 2 (IAS 10100)
o Core Social Science 1 (IAS 10200)
o Core Social Science 2 (IAS 10300)
o Core Natural Science 1 or Core Natural Science 2 (IAS 10400 or IAS 10500)
o Sociology of Education (SOC 38144)
o ECE 1: Theories of Development (EDCE 20604)
o ECE 2: Development, Assessment, Teaching, and Learning (EDCE 20614)
Students may use transfer credit from another college to satisfy these course requirements. Transfer credits granted for courses are usually indicated on your City College transcript, listed as taken at the previous college(s).

In order to use transfer credit for ECE courses taken at another college, please fill out a "Request for ECE Transfer Course Review" form at least one or two semesters before you plan to interview and attach the appropriate transcript(s) and course descriptions. Submit your entire package to Ms. Debbie Edwards-Anderson, ECE Program Manager. Your documents will be evaluated by the ECE Program Director on a case-by-case basis, and you will be notified of your status by email.

3. Pass the SEAT (School of Education Admission Test) with a minimum score of 57. Please note that you must pass both the multiple choice section and the writing portion of the SEAT to be admitted to the ECE Program. (Test dates are always posted on the ECE bulletin board; sign up for the test date of your choice at the reception desk and request sample SEAT questions to help you study)

4. Pass the ECE Program Admission Interview (Admission interview are held during Spring semesters only. The next admission interviews will be held in Spring 2014. SIGN UP FOR ADMISSION INTERVIEWS AT THE FRONT DESK IN LATE FEBRUARY/EARLY MARCH 2014.
