Middle School Science Education Program

Simultaneously obtain both a Masters Degree and certification. Program open to both in-service and pre-service candidates.

CCNY offers two options for those interested in a middle school science teacher certification program. Option 1 is a permanent certification plus Master's degree program for teachers who already have a provisional certificate. Option 2 is a provisional certification plus Master's degree program for teacher candidates who do not have any certification.

Interested students should apply for admission to the School of Education. Contact Office of Graduate Admissions (212 650-6296) for details on how to apply.

All program changes must be requested and approved in writing.

OPTION 1:  Master of Science Education Degree in Middle School Science Education, Professional Certification

Entrance requirements: 

• satisfactory completion of a Bachelor's Degree in any area with at least 8 credits in science
• provisional certification in any area
• three supporting letters of recommendation.

OPTION 2:  Master of Science Education Degree in Middle School Science Education, Initial Certification

• satisfactory completion of a Bachelor's Degree in any area with at least 8 credits in science

Option 2B: Master of Science Education Degree in Middle School Science Education, Initial Certification: Transitional B Option

This degree is intended for individuals with limited background in science but without any certification and want to be certified in the classroom as soon as possible. Candidates must be part of existing Transitional B programs such as New York City Teaching Fellows.
