Natalya was born in Kiev, Ukraine and moved to the United States with her family when she was two years old. As a child, she spent a lot of time wondering about what numbers really were and how to prove that one and one couldn't somehow make three. In high school, she participated in her school's math team and took advanced coursework. She learned more about the true depth and interconnectivity of the branches of mathematics.

Currently, Natalya is majoring in math with a concentration in computer science. She wants to learn as much as possible about the different branches of mathematics before deciding on her future focus. Ultimately, she would like to be a mathematics professor. In her spare time, she loves to study foreign languages and often writes stories and poems in English, Russian, and German. She plays ultimate frisbee both competitively and recreationally.

In Natalya's second semester of college, she came across a set theory textbook that described how the natural numbers are built, and it turned out that the number three was just {{},{{}},{{},{{}}}}, while one plus one was {{},{{}}}. They are not the same at all, and she no longer has reason to worry.
