Career options with a master's in international relations

The Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership, the Master's Program in International Relations at the City College of New York, offers a professional degree that prepares students for a variety of careers in the public, private and non-profit sectors. Among the various options, graduates will be qualified to pursue the following career choices:

  • Policy analyst or researcher for a government agency or think tank
  • Staff specialist or policy analyst for an international organization
  • Staff member for a non-governmental organization
  • Member of the foreign service or diplomatic corps
  • Journalist or correspondent with a specialty in international affairs
  • High school teacher

A masters in international affairs can also prepare a student for further academic work toward a Ph.D. and a career in college teaching and research.
