Government Views of SARS
(Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome)

Early in 2003, reports began to come out of Asia of a previously unknown, but highly contagious disease which was called Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). Because the spread of the disease was accelerated by exposed/infected travellers, cases also began to be identified in Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Toronto, Canada. A smaller number of cases were also reported in the United States and Europe. In April 2003 a coronavirus never before seen in humans was identified by the World Health Organization as the cause of SARS. This website concentrates on primary Government documents and information both from the United States and from international sources.
