Dr. FRANK NETTER: THE MICHELANGELO OF MEDICAL ILLUSTRATION

Cohen Library Atrium, April 11-June 1, 2000

The purpose of this exhibit is to celebrate the life and times of Professor

Frank Netter MD, clinician, medical artist extraordinaire, and alumni of City College

of New York.

His monumental work, "The CIBA Collection of Medical Illustration",

consists of thirteen volumes of medical atlases that depict all the anatomy, physiology,

embryology and pathology of the diseases of mankind.

What distinguishes Dr. Netter' s drawings from other illustrators of medical books is his keen understanding of the human anatomy and love for drawing; but what makes it unique is that this surgeon combined his medical training with a humanistic vision of human nature. This exhibition will introduce you to this accomplished medical artist through images and text.
