How To Apply


PLEASE NOTE THAT THE APPLICATION DEADLINE IS NOW APRIL 1st !

To apply to the MFA in Media Arts Production program, you need to submit the following materials:

MFA Supplemental Application:
This is where you select your specialization (Writing/Directing for Fiction, Writing/Directing for Documentary, Camera/Lighting, Editing or Producing/Production Management) and there are instructions for project statements.

Applicants must submit a portfolio of creative film and/or video work. A screenplay or an interactive digital media piece may also be submitted in addition to the film/video work as secondary material. Film and video pieces must be submitted on NTSC (U.S.) system VHS tape or DVD. More than one sample may be included, but the total running time of the material cannot exceed 15 minutes. Screenplays must be typed and in standard format. Digital work must be Macintosh compatible

If an applicant wants to write and direct a thesis project in the second year, a one-page story outline for narrative, or a one-page proposal for documentary is required. If the applicant chooses to pursue one of the other creative areas such as camera, editing or producing/production managing, a one-page statement identifying the particular area and reasons for pursuing is required. Instructions are found in the application.

City College of New York/CUNY Graduate Application:
This application includes your $125 application fee, 2 letters of recommendation on letterhead, official transcripts from your undergraduate school and TOEFL scores for International students.

Note to International Students: Although the application process does not begin until January 1st, we strongly suggest that you begin to request your official transcripts (and translations, if applicable) from your institutions, and take the TOEFL test as early as possible, in order to avoid delay on the review of your application. Please also allow for additional time for your application material to travel via mail to the U.S. Please be advised that All application material, official documents, transcripts, and scores MUST be "received" (not postmarked by) on or before the deadline: April 1st.
