December 2010 Science Events at The City College of New York

Dr. Jeffrey I. Gordon, MD, delivers the Fifth Annual Sharon Cosloy-Ed Blank Lecture Wednesday, December 8.

The City College of New York Division of Science announces eight events for December featuring prominent scientists from across the United States speaking on their research.  All are free and open to the public and held in the Marshak Science Building, unless otherwise noted.  Listings of event times, speakers, topics and room numbers follow, along with contact information at the bottom of the list.  

December 1, 12 noon: Biochem Seminar, Dr. Diana Bratu, associate professor of biology, Hunter College, “In vivo fluorescence imaging of oskar mRNP transport during drosophila oogenesis," Room 1027.

December 1, 4 p.m.: Physics Colloquium, Dr. Zimei Bu, associate professor of chemistry, The City College of New York, “Dynamic propagation of allosteric signals by nanoscale protein motion," Room 418N.

December 6, 12 noon: Salzberg Chemistry Seminar Series, Dr. Srini Raghavan, associate professor and Patrick & Margeurite Sung Chair, Department of Chemical & Biomedical Engineering, University of Maryland, “The ‘Easy’ Approach to Self-Assembly: Teaching New Tricks to Old Molecules and Nanoparticles,” Room 1027.

December 6,  12:15 p.m.: Biology Colloquium, Dr. Bart Krekelberg, assistant professor, Center for Molecular and Behavioral Sciences, Rutgers University – Newark, “Neural Mechanisms of Perceptual Stability,” Room 801.

December 8, 12 noon: Biochem Seminar, Dr. Marco Ceruso, assistant professor of chemistry, The City College of New York, “Molecular mechanism of activation of EGFR: Insights from multi-scale computational modeling,” Room 1027.

December 8
, 4 p.m.: The 5th Annual Sharon Cosloy-Edward Blank Lecture, Dr. Jeffrey I. Gordon, M.D., Robert J. Glaser Distinguished University Professor and Director, Center for Genome Sciences and Systems Biology, Washington University School of Medicine, "The human gut microbiome: dining in with trillions of friends," Shepard Hall, Room 250.

December 8, 4 p.m.: Physics Colloquium, Dr. Hong-Liang Cui, Professor of Physics, Polytechnic Institute of New York University, “Physics and Applications of Fiber Optic Sensors,” Room 418N.

December 13, 12:15 p.m.: Dr. Iva Greenwald, Professor of Biology, Columbia University, “LIN-12/Notch signaling in C. elegans,” Room 801.
