Spitzer School of Architecture Presents Sciame Spring Lecture Series

 “Architecture: Myth, Symbol and Representation” is the theme for the Spring Sciame Lecture Series at the Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture at The City College of New York (CCNY).  The nine-week series, which is free and open to the public, presents prominent architects, historians, critics and authors.

The series is sponsored by F.J. Sciame Construction Co.  Lectures begin at 6:30 p.m. and are held in Sciame Auditorium in the Spitzer School of Architecture building, 141 Convent Avenue, New York, NY 10031, located at West 135th Street and Convent Avenue.  Lectures are also simulcast at www.ccny.cuny.edu/ssa/inmdex.html

February 10: Anthony Vilder, dean and professor, Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture, Cooper Union,  “Temple or Hut: The Politics of Modern Memory.”

February 17: Friedrich St. Florian, principal, Friedrich St. Florian Architects, “At the Intersection Between Architecture and Public Art.”

February 24: Robert McCarter, Ruth and Norman Moore Professor of Architecture, Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, Washington University in St. Louis, “Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Kahn: Towards an Architecture of Presentation and Ritual.”

March 3: Brian Healy, principal, Brian Healy Architects, and distinguished visiting professor, Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture, “Continuities.”

March 10: Victoria Meyers, founding partner, hanrahanMeyers Architects, and distinguished visiting professor, Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture, “DWiP & Sacred Architecture: Symbolism in the Digital Realm.”

March 17: Richard Etlin, distinguished university professor, School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, University of Maryland, “Death in the Enchanted Palace: Philibert Delorme’s Château d’ Anet.”

March 24: Charles Beveridge, author, “Frederick Law Olmstead: Designing the American Landscape, “Frederick Law Olmsted: The Landscape Architect and the City.”

March 31: Thomas Beeby, chairman emeritus, HBRA Architects, and former dean, Yale University School of Architecture, “The Search for Precedence: A Conversation with the Past.”

April 7: William J. R. Curtis, historian, critic, painter and photographer, “Materials of the Imagination: Glascow School of Art by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.”
