CCNY’S 162ND COMMENCEMENT SET FOR MAY 30; PRESIDENT GREGORY WILLIAMS TO ADDRESS GRADUATES
NEW YORK, May 19, 2008 – The City College of New York (CCNY) will confer an honorary degree on internationally renowned Mexican sculptor Enrique Carbajal, known professionally as “Sebastian,” at its 162nd Commencement Exercises, Friday, May 30, 2008. Manhattan District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau will receive The City College President’s Medal for Distinguished Service. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. outside Shepard Hall, at 160 Convent Avenue, Manhattan.

PHYSICISTS AT CCNY DEVELOP TUNABLE LASER WITH BANDWIDTH SPANNING TWO WIDELY USED TELECOMMUNICATIONS WINDOWS
NEW YORK, May 19, 2008 – A team of physicists in the Institute for Ultrafast Spectroscopy and Lasers (IUSL) of the Physics Department at The City College of New York (CCNY) have developed new near-infrared broadband laser materials with tunability ranges around triple those of earlier crystals. The new crystals have a tunability range of as much as 460 nanometers (nm) and have potential application in such fields as telecommunications, biomedical imaging and remote sensing.

TWO STUDENTS FROM CCNY TO RECEIVE SALK SCHOLARSHIPS
NEW YORK, May 15, 2008 – Oluwaseun “Stephanie” Adeosun, a graduating senior at The City College of New York (CCNY), and William Mak, a member of the Class of 2007 of the Macaulay Honors College at CCNY, were among eight outstanding CUNY pre-medical students chosen to receive Jonas E. Salk Scholarships to study medicine. The Salk Scholarships are being awarded this morning at Baruch College’s William and Anita Newman Conference Center.

NEW YORK, April 28, 2008 -- Anne Tan, a junior in The Macaulay Honors College at The City College of New York (CCNY), is the winner of the first Art Stevens CCNY/PRSA-NY Public Relations Scholarship.
