Distinguished Professor of Political Science
The Colin L. Powell School for Civic and Global LeadershipDepartment
Professor Berman sadly passed away in September 2013. He received his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1968 and also received degrees from Columbia and Oxford Universities. He helped found the Center for Workers' Education at CCNY. He was a member of the editorial board of Dissent, and wrote cultural history and criticism for the New York Times, Village Voice, Dissent, The Nation, New Left Review, among other publications. He wrote a new "Introduction" for Penguin's 2011 edition of the Communist Manifesto. He will be sorely missed and the department mourns his passing.
