Health Insurance


Please be advised that CUNY's student health insurance program with United Healthcare will not be offered in the 2014-15 academic year. Students currently enrolled in the United Healthcare plan can maintain their insurance with United Healthcare through August of 2014. Please note, the discontinuation of the student health insurance plan is considered a qualifying event that will allow students who are currently enrolled in the plan to purchase insurance through the NY State of Health insurance exchange within 60 days of losing coverage. To avoid a lapse in coverage, please visit the NY State of Health website or call 1-855-355-5777 You must enroll by August 14th for coverage to begin September 1st, 2014.

Young Adults and the Affordable Care Act

Starting October 1, 2013, you will be able to shop for and enroll in the health insurance plan that meets your needs through the New York Health Benefit Exchange. New York City's free prescription discount card is accepted at most pharmacies throughout the five boroughs. The card provides discounts on all prescriptions, including brand name and generic medication as well as some over the counter medications, such as stop smoking aids and diabetes supplies.

In collaboration with the Mayor's Office of Health Insurance Access (MOHIA)Student Health Services invites insurance enrollers on campus to speak to students regarding health insurance options.
