Degree Information

You need 120 credits to graduate.

In order to meet the requirements for graduation, all students are required to complete three different kinds of courses: Pathways General Education requirements (30-42 credits), major courses (30-45 credits), and free elective courses (30-60 credits).

Pathways requirements will give you broad exposure to a wide range of disciplines and will strengthen your core writing, quantitative, language, and critical thinking skills.

Major courses will provide you with in-depth learning in a single discipline and allow you to develop expertise in an area of study.

Free electives are courses you choose that might complement your major courses, allow you to explore an interest in a field outside your major, or provide you an opportunity to strengthen key skills.

Additional Degree Requirements

  • Successful completion of an approved course of study in a major of which at least 60% of the credits must be taken at The City College.

  • A minimum overall and major GPA of at least 2.0 (Some majors may require a higher GPA).

  • Residency requirement completion of 30 credits of their degree at City College. In addition, at least 60% of the major (50% required for a minor) must be completed in residency at City College. All transfer students and second degree students (including those who are graduates of City College) are subject to the residency requirement. Graduates of City College who return for a second degree may not use coursework completed under the first degree to meet the residency requirement for a second degree from City College.
