Learn about the Spitzer School's post-professional programs for students with architecture and landscape architecture backgrounds: Urban Design (Master of Urban Planning) and MS Architecture. This session will include overviews by program directors Nandini Bagchee and Julio Salcedo-Fernandez, a discussion with recent graduates, and Q&A.

The Urban Design program is newly centered on participatory urbanism, the premise that only a combination of leadership, technical, and design skills will lead to meaningful change in the way we think, plan, and construct our built environments. Building on the leadership of the late Michael Sorkin, the program is specifically designed to foster new conversations in response to our urbanized planetary crises and provide transformative alternatives that radically reimagine our cities as equitable, diverse, resourceful, and ecologically nimble.

The Master of Science in Architecture post-professional program embraces the role of the architect in contemporary society as a politically engaged, positive agent of change. Using New York City as a laboratory, our curriculum propels students into the urban landscape to connect with stakeholders and to draw inspiration from the city’s teeming diversity.

Spitzer School grad programs share a teaching, research, and design environment known as the unit system. Within year-long, team-taught, vertically integrated design units, students and professors work together to define questions and propose design solutions. Just like in the professions, students synthesize diverse skills and subject areas into their projects. Check out this year’s design units.

Our next deadline is in January 2021 to begin studies in Fall 2021. Please see instructions on our Graduate Application Instructions page.
