Herman Badillo Scholarship Fund

In loving memory of Herman Badillo, the City College of New York / CUNY is grateful for contributions to the Herman Badillo Scholarship Fund. We are grateful to Gail Badillo for her unwavering commitment in establishing this lasting legacy at CUNY.

The Herman Badillo Scholarship Fund has been established to provide deserving students who demonstrate high academic excellence and outstanding character with funding to complete their education.

Herman Badillo, America's first Puerto Rican-born congressman and leader in New York City politics for four decades was an advocate for civil rights, urban renewal, employment opportunities, voting rights, housing and education reform.

Between 1962 and 2001, Mr. Badillo was elected to four terms in Congress, was a City Commissioner, served as Bronx Borough President, was deputy under Mayor Edward I. Koch, counsel to Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, became a candidate for state and city comptroller, and served at a trustee and then Board Chairman of the City University of New York (CUNY).

Mr. Badillo's leadership of the CUNY Board from 1999 through 2001, transformed the university by ending open enrollment in the senior colleges and raising standards for admission, curriculums and graduation after years of academic decline.
