Web Development Certificate Program

Web developers design and create websites, manage website speed and performance, and create website content. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2015), web development is the fastest growing career in today’s economy. Employment of web developers is projected to grow 27% from 2014 to 2024. Web development offers freedom and flexibility; one out of seven web developers are self-employed. The average salary for web developers was $64,970 in 2015. 

 
The Certificate in Web Design and Development is a hands-on program designed to teach students the principles and mechanics underlying the design development of websites. Students receive practical training in  JavaScript, PHP, and career development including resume writing and interview skills. It is open to beginners with the goal of teaching general skills that can be applied to any web development project. 
 
 
To earn the certificate, students must take all 3 required courses:
 
 
 
  • Part 1: Web Design & User Experience

    • This 72-hour course will introduce students to the basics of web development and design.This is the first course In the Web Design and Development Certificate Program.

       

      Students will learn real-world web development skills that will enable them to create beautiful functional, fully- featured websites for themselves, family, friends and colleagues. This 12-week course begins with an overview of HTML/5 and CSS/3  basics. You will learn how to create wireframe and prototypes using today’s most popular techniques.  Students will then learn to put this knowledge to practical use building a website as a final project.

  • Part 2: Programming with Javascript & JQUERY

    • This 72-hour course will introduce students to the basics of web development using Javascript. You will learn how to utilize Javascript for the programming language it is & learn to manipulate your HTML elements in the DOM. This is the second course In the Web Design and Development Certificate Program.

       

      Students will learn real-world web development skills that will enable them to create fully functional websites for themselves, family, friends and colleagues. This 12-week course begins with an overview data types, algorithms, conditionals and general Javascript syntax. You will learn how to create animations and manipulate your web pages using Javascript. After taking this course, creating the next facebook isn’t so out of reach!

    • Write Less and Do More! Students will learn to use Query; one of the Javascript libraries in order to make their code more efficient and their Javascript easier to use! jQuery take common tasks that require multiple lines of Javascript code to achieve and efficiently condenses it to methods you can call with a single line of code. Students will also learn the basics to PHP which runs on the server

  • Part 3: Intro to PHP & MY SQL

    • This 72-hour course is the third and final part of the Web Design and Development Certificate Program.

       

      Students will take their basic website to the next level! Students don't have to be a Computer Science major, though, to learn how to customize websites to fit their needs and requirements exactly

    • Concepts include web design basics, fundamentals of database systems; Web API integration; Server-side scripting to develop dynamic web pages
