Welcome to the CUNY School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program. Take a tour of our program, learn about our mission, meet our faculty and staff, and find out what makes us unique in the field of physician assistant education.

Physician assistants are health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. Physician assistants work in a variety of medical settings, ranging from family medicine and primary care to sub-specialty surgery. P.A.s practice in-patient, out-patient and emergency medicine. The CUNY School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program is a mission-driven program, attracting students with a commitment to providing excellent care to those in greatest need. One of the oldest P.A. Programs in the country, over 900 physician assistants have graduated from the PA Program.

The Physician Assistant Program is committed to increasing the number of physician assistants of African-American, Latino, and other ethnic backgrounds, whose communities have historically been under-served. It also encourages representation for individuals and families living in the communities in which they practice. As such, its mission and goals are consistent with those of the Sophie Davis Biomedical Education Program/CUNY School of Medicine.

The Physician Assistant Program is committed to academic excellence. The class of (January) 2013 earned a NCCPA PANCE pass rate of 100%, the second time in five years!

The Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) has granted Accreditation-Continued status to The CUNY School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program.  Accreditation-Continued is an accreditation status granted when a currently accredited program is in compliance with the ARC-PA StandardsThe program’s accreditation history can be viewed on the ARC-PA website at

The date for the next validation review of the program by the ARC-PA will be June 27-28, 2024. The review date is contingent upon continued compliance with the Accreditation Standards and ARC-PA policy.
