GRE (General Test)

In 2016, New York State implemented a new regulation for admissions into graduate programs across all Schools of Education i.e. the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) for applicants to Teacher Education and Educational Leadership Programs.*

This new regulation went into effect for applicants who applied and were admitted to the Fall 2016 class.

Applicants to the School of Education are advised of the following:

All qualified applicants will be conditionally admitted to the School of Education pending receipt of the GRE official score report:

Applicants must submit a GRE score report by the last day of their first semester's classes to Admissions in North Academic Center, Room 3/223A. Failure to meet this requirement will result in a conversion to a non-matriculant status for the following term.

The Institutional Code for City College is 2083. GRE score reports must come directly from ETS (Educational Testing Service) to be official. GRE scores expire after five years. This Institutional Code number will ensure that GRE scores are sent to The City College Office of Admissions. GRE scores sent directly to any academic department will delay the processing of your application. City College does not use department codes. The Educational Testing Service administers the GRE. *Applicants who are certified and also have a Masters degree are exempt from the GRE requirement.
