The goal of the NYC Math Sciences Alliance is to carry out the mission of the National Math Alliance in the New York City Metropolitan Area. Our goal is simple: we want to be sure that every underrepresented or underserved American student with the talent and the ambition has the opportunity to earn a doctoral degree in a mathematical science.

Our commitment is to build a national community of students, faculty, and staff who will work together to transform our departments, colleges, and universities into institutions where all students are welcome. Our mentors come from a variety of schools all over the country. What they all have in common is a commitment to our Alliance Scholars.

The National Alliance for Doctoral Studies in the Mathematical Sciences prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, national origin, color, creed, religion, sex, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or associational preference. The Alliance also affirms its commitment to providing equal opportunities and equal access to Alliance programs.

Our Goal

The goal of the NYC Math Sciences Alliance is to carry out the mission of the National Math Alliance in the New York City Metropolitan Area. We work to ensure that underrepresented or underserved with talent and ambition has the opportunity to earn a PhD in a mathematical science.

Our regional Math Alliance is just getting going this year. Goals include:

■ Developing a community of math alliance mentors and scholars in the Metropolitan area.

■ Facilitating the pairing of alliance scholars with mentors.

■ Developing programs to ease difficult transitions for scholars including:

  • transitions between colleges and universities,
  • the transition from elementary to advanced mathematics, and
  • the transition to independent research.

■ Creating opportunities for scholars and mentors to interact and learn from one another.
