"From my previous industry experience in small medical device incubators, working on innovative solutions to challenges in healthcare threw me into such a collaborative environment, I realized I wanted to learn more about the foundations and intricacies in this space. I chose the MTM program because I know it will foster that type of collaborative environment where I will be able to learn from other students and professors on the tools and skills needed for innovation in this competitive and fast-pace space!"

"I chose to attend MTM because this program is the bridge between the sciences and healthcare. It incorporates clinical practices and therapeutics with application of the STEM fields. This program focuses on medicine, which is what I like the most and it will allow me to use my biochemistry studies in learning about medicine, diseases and treatments. It also focuses on development and engineering, which opens up my studies and future plan options by learning about many different applications and approaches to the same topic/problem. Lastly, it will help me more with teamwork and group collaboration skills. "

Undergraduate Degree: Applied Mathematics

"I am passionate about using my background in applied mathematics to improve healthcare through the design of prosthetics and/or assistive technologies. I see translational medicine as a good bridge between technical problem solving and real world medical impact, and hopes to contribute to creating accessible, life changing tools for those in need. In this program it involves working in groups and collaboration which sounds really exciting. My ultimate goal to gain from this program is to help develop new prosthetics designs and/or medical devices that are not only technically advanced but affordable and accessible. "

"A quiet culmination of experiences across various settings in research labs and clinical settings led me to pursue a Master’s in Translational Medicine (MTM) at The City College of New York (CCNY). I noticed the pattern of groundbreaking discoveries that too often remained confined to journals, sporadically translating into a novel therapeutic or software that will realistically reach the patients they were designed to help. As a creative scientific mind, the MTM program provides a solid foundation for me to investigate how the foundations of basic science and pre-clinical research can be translated into creative, cost-effective, accessible, and impactful therapeutics. My long-term goal is to continue on the research path to earn a PhD and eventually launch a MedTech company, developing affordable medical devices, therapeutics, and/or software for underserved communities. This vision requires not only scientific insight, but entrepreneurial acumen, clinical awareness, and hands-on experience in device development, all of which the MTM curriculum offers. I am eager to join a community of thinkers, builders, and future leaders who are committed to ensuring that scientific breakthroughs do not remain in labs, and work to bring them to life, where they belong, in the hands of patients."

"This program will prepare me for a career in an up-and-coming niche field that piques my interest. I hope to contribute to research within the addiction field as the current policies desperately need a revamp."

"As an M.D., I’ve always been drawn to bridging the gap between medicine and real-world application. In clinical practice, you can change one life at a time with each patient encounter. But if you can develop an idea and transform it into a medical device that addresses a real need, you have the opportunity to impact hundreds—if not thousands—of lives at once. That possibility is what excites me about MTM."
