John Ploss, a distinguished alumnus of The City College of New York’s Bernard & Anne Spitzer School of Architecture, is giving back to his alma mater after a successful career as an architect. He’s funding a $5,000 annual travel scholarship for Spitzer architecture students nearly 50 years after graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the School. John spent 44 years as an architect in San Francisco. Researchers at The City College of New York have shown how a quantum emitter, the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in diamond, interacts in unexpected ways with a specially engineered photonic structure when moved around with a scanning tip. In a move to expand opportunities for New Yorkers interested in becoming educators in critical shortage areas, Governor Kathy Hochul has announced $14.4 million in Workforce Development awards to several colleges and universities – private and public – including The City College of New York.
