Profile

Marisol Manríquez-Weiner holds two bachelor’s degrees from Chile: a B.A. in Secondary Spanish Education from Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación and a B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature from Universidad de Chile. She also completed post-title studies in Theater with a Mention in Theater Management at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and in School Theater Management at Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación. In the United States, she earned a Master of Arts in Spanish from Wayne State University, a Master of Science in Education from Baruch College, an Advanced Certificate in Bilingual Education from Queens College, and Advanced Certificates in Bilingual District Leadership from Queens College and in Educational Leadership from Baruch College. She also earned a Master of Arts in Spanish Applied Linguistics from Universidad Pablo de Olavide (Spain) and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Spanish Applied Linguistics at the same institution.

Professor Manríquez-Weiner teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in world language education within The City University of New York (CUNY). At the undergraduate level, she teaches Curriculum Development in Secondary Spanish Education. At the graduate level, she teaches Spanish Grammar and Its Pedagogy and Curriculum Development and Design in World Language Teaching. She also teaches Spanish for Heritage Speakers at The College of Staten Island, and serves as a Clinical Supervisor at Hunter College.

Professor Manríquez-Weiner currently serves as a District Achievement Instructional Specialist (World Languages) for New Visions High School District (NYCPS), supporting 60 schools across the district. In this role, she collaborates closely with world language educators and administrators, providing instructional coaching and leading professional learning initiatives to strengthen proficiency-based instruction, curriculum design, and culturally responsive practices. From 2018 to 2024, she served as World Language Content Specialist for AP for All at the Division of Teaching and Learning, New York City Public Schools, where she led citywide professional learning initiatives, supported Advanced Placement World Language programs, and partnered with school leaders to enhance world language instruction.

Earlier in her career, Professor Manríquez-Weiner taught Spanish at a charter school in Flint, Michigan; at a private school in New York City; and at a New York City public school. She previously served as a Spanish teacher and school theater director in Chile for 10 years.

Her professional experience and scholarly interests span bilingual and heritage language education, Spanish literature, world language curriculum design, instructional leadership, and the preparation of secondary world language teachers in multilingual urban public school contexts.
