Professor Holober is a composer, arranger and jazz pianist who has performed, recorded with and/or had his compositions played by The Stockholm Jazz Orchestra, the Frankfort Radio Jazz Orchestra, Westchester Jazz Orchestra, The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, John Patitucci, The Tim Ries Rolling Stones Project, Nick Brignola, Charles Pillow, Pete McGuinness, Jason Rigby, The BBC Jazz Orchestra, The American, New York, and Prism Saxophone Quartets, and others. He has appeared on over 35 CDs as a sideman. His recordings as a leader include “Canyon”, “Wish List”, and “Thought Trains”, with The Gotham Jazz Orchestra. "Thought Trains" received a 4 star review in DownBeat Magazine and was listed as one of the outstanding CDs of 2005. The Gotham Jazz Orchestra’s next CD, “Quake”, is due out in February 2008. Mike was recently appointed artistic director/conductor of the Westchester Jazz Orchestra and assistant music director of the BMI New York Jazz Composers’ Workshop. He is also composer in residence of the Gotham Wind Symphony. Mike has been a MacDowell Fellow on several occasions, a Corporation of Yaddo guest, and a Ucross Foundation Resident. Professor Holober is on sabbatical leave during the academic year 2008-9.
