The Sophie Davis History Project is now up and running!

The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education at The City College is now 40+ years old. What began as a great experiment to address the need for greater diversity in the medical profession and to meet the acute primary care health needs in underserved areas has, in a way, come full circle as health care reform in the whole country is trying to address the very things that the school has tried to do since its beginnings.

The Future of Sophie Davis: Accredited Medical School

The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education offers a seven-year biomedical program located in the heart of Harlem, New York. It has long been known for providing minority students with an outstanding education in the biomedical sciences, as well as producing primary care physicians who work in underserved communities. Since the founding of the program in 1973, it has been able to fulfill this mission. Students spend five years at the City College of New York, where they complete their undergraduate education as well as the first two years of medical studies curriculum. Continue reading...



Sophie Davis Dreams of the Future

It has been a long-held goal of the Sophie Davis School to transform into a fully accredited medical program. Now, the future is closer than you think. Known as an innovator in biomedical education for forty years, the Sophie Davis Program continues to focus its curriculum around community health and social medicine. Its successes in educating a significant number of physicians who choose careers in primary care and in imparting a social awareness to its graduates have come to define the Sophie philosophy, inspiring physicians across every area of specialty. Continue reading...
