Tutoring at ARC

Students being tutored at ARC
2015-16 SSSP Tutors

The Academic Resource Center (ARC) is SSSP's hub for tutoring services, study groups and academic workshops. We feature on-on-one and group tutoring programs that range across the disciplines.  Our staff members are fellow students in high academic standing who have excelled in the courses they tutor.  ARC tutoring programs assist SSSP students with writing assignments or course content, and may be scheduled on a weekly or biweekly basis.

To sign up for tutoring, you must first file a referral form with your SSSP counselor, and then submit an ARC orientation webform (click here).

Within three business days after the webform has been completed, the ARC Coordinator will contact you through your citymail account to set up an appointment.

Each semester ARC holds special topics workshops designed to help students achieve their academic and career goals. Workshop topics vary each semester, but may include time management, writing personal statements, overcoming test anxiety, developing a thesis statement, and various topics within the STEM fields. You may indicate which special topics workshops interest you when you complete the ARC orientation webform. Check the postings at ARC and on your Citymail account for information about upcoming workshops. Most of our workshops are held in Marshak 1104 on Tuesdays from 12:30 to 1:30pm. If you plan to attend a special topics workshop, please RSVP to

SSSP students are also invited to visit the center informally for quiet study time, improvised group meetings, or to use our computer lab.

We recruit tutors for the following academic term, so you must apply in Fall for Spring positions and in Spring for Fall positions. Qualified students should carry a 3.2 or higher cumulative GPA and have earned an A- or higher in the course(s) they wish to tutor.  Salaried tutors are paid $12 an hour regardless of student attendance.  Most of our tutoring is one-on-one.  Please send a completed application along with your resume and an unofficial transcript to if you would like to tutor at ARC next semester.

ARC Hours of Operation:

Monday through Thursday, 9:30am-5:30pm

Friday, 9:30am-3:30pm

*Note that ARC's hours follow the academic calendar, so holidays and class schedule shifts apply.
