Tutoring Services

SSSP's Academic Resource Center (ARC) is our hub for tutoring, study groups and academic workshops. We feature on-on-one and group tutoring programs ranging across the disciplines.  Our staff members are fellow students in high academic standing who have excelled in the courses they tutor.  ARC tutoring programs assist SSSP students with writing assignments or course content, and may be scheduled on a weekly, biweekly, or customized basis.

To sign up for tutoring, please submit an ARC webform (CLICK HERE).

In order to view the webform, your Citymail password must be have been updated for the current semester (visit the cITy Tech helpdesk in NAC 1/301 to update your password).  Please note that your Citymail password may be out of date even while it continues to work for email purposes.

Within seven class days after the webform has been received, the ARC Coordinator will contact you through your Citymail account to set up an appointment or ask for clarification. You may check your upcoming appointments online by logging into Advisortrac.  This system will also send an automated reminder email on the day of an appointment.

All SSSP students are invited to visit ARC anytime, without an appointment, for independent study, study group meetings, or computer lab access.  Just be sure to sign in and choose "studying(ARC)" instead of "tutoring" at the ARC kiosk computer near the front door.

If you would like to send us feedback on your tutoring sessions--either as a tutee or a tutor--, please complete a Tutoring Feedback Webform.

Working at ARC

We recruit tutors for the following academic term, so you must apply in fall for spring positions and in spring/summer for fall positions. Qualified students should carry a 3.2 or higher cumulative GPA and have earned an A- or higher in the course(s) they wish to tutor.  Salaried tutors are paid $15 an hour for all active timeslots regardless of student attendance. Most of our tutoring is one-on-one.  You do not have to be an SSSP member to be employed as a tutor at ARC.  International students are also welcome to apply.

If you would like to become a tutor at ARC, please complete a tutor application, a resume and an unofficial transcript.  You may type the information requested on the application into the body of an email if you have problems sending the form.  Staffing decisions are made in mid January for the spring semester and in mid August for fall semester.
