A Letter from the Provost - CCNY Bookstore

As we prepare for registration for Summer and Fall 2017, I would like to give you a preliminary heads up about our exciting new online bookstore, CCNYbooks.com, coming online for the Fall semester, and head off any confusion about the transition period.

For Fall 2017, CCNY is happy to announce the launch of a new online bookstore for all textbooks and course materials. Selecting and ordering books will be done completely online and students will have their course materials shipped to them individually either to their home or to campus. After a thorough review, Akademos was selected as our exclusive vendor for these services. (Akademos currently serves Queens, John Jay, and Medgar Evers, as well as the CUNY School of Law, and is coming to other CUNY colleges.)

Akademos/CCNYbooks.com – which will use your CUNYfirst login – was chosen because:

  • It provides our students with the best options for saving money on their books, the widest range of different formats (new, used books, e-books and rentals), and the fastest way to find exactly the information they need for the classes they are taking. Students will be able to get the books they need at the lowest price available, and have access to year-round buy back.
  • It provides each faculty member with an easy interface which shows only the courses he or she is assigned to teach, allows a search by title or ISBN number, create custom Coursepacks, and access a number of additional curricular enrichment options. The books and materials that are selected will be automatically transmitted to CUNYFirst. Those departments and divisions that are set up to have one or a few persons enter books for multiple faculty members will be able to continue to do so. Very soon we will send out more detailed information about CCNYbooks.com, and set up discussions and demonstrations for faculty, staff and students, and provide a timeline for implementation.

Please note that this is a period of transition. For the Summer sessions, faculty will submit and students will buy their books through Follett, our campus bookstore, as they have always done. Faculty will be asked to submit their titles by April 13.

Regards,

Mary Erina Driscoll
Interim Provost
