ABOUT US | Bridging Academic and Community Expertise
The Office of Engaged Scholarship (OES) is the hub at The City College of New York for advancing sustainable and equitable community-campus partnerships. We offer resources and expertise that support CCNY faculty and partnering community-based organizations in exploring, developing, and deepening collaborations that bring academic expertise and higher education resources to bear on authentic community needs and public concerns.
OES was formally established in the winter of 2014, however it has grown out of ten years of professional development programming, funding, and technical assistance in support of a variety of community-campus partnerships (e.g., service-learning, community-based participatory research, and general public scholarship) through the former Colin L. Powell Center for Leadership and Service, which has since been merged with the Division of Social Sciences to become the Colin Powell School for Civc and Global Leadership.
OES continues to provide opportunities for faculty and their partnering community members to design and execute thoughtful, mutually beneficial research projects and courses that address public crises and pressing concerns in areas such as health, education, immigration, community revitalization, and arts and culture.
Activities within the Office of Engaged Scholarship are guided by dedicated faculty, staff, community members, and campus committees whose members organize and lead programs, projects, and training sessions. Learn more.
The Office of Engaged Scholarship fosters respectful, reciprocal relationships with our community partners who assist us in identifying community and organizational needs and work with us to create programs and partnerships that meet those needs. Getting involved is easy and new partners are always welcome! Learn more.
