Paralegal Studies Certificate Program

A Paralegal Studies Certificate is the gateway to enter the paralegal field. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of paralegals and legal assistants is projected to grow 8 percent from 2014 to 2024. According to the National Association of Legal Assistants, paralegals earned an average salary of $52,188 in 2014.
This intensive program emphasizes the practical skills needed to succeed as a paralegal. When students complete our program, they are ready to go to work. Our curriculum covers topics rarely covered in other paralegal programs and doesn’t waste time on filler. The skill-based curriculum enables students to complete their studies in five months.
The instructors for this program are judges and lawyers. The course includes job interview preparation, field trips to the New York County Criminal Court to view arraignments, and visits to a law library.

Professor Michael J. Pocchia, Esq. is the lead instructor, and a practicing attorney with over 25 years legal experience in both civil and criminal law. He is admitted to practice law in both New York and New Jersey as well as before the United States Supreme Court. He has been teaching students how to be successful and competent paralegals for over 17 years.


  • Paralegal Skills, Torts and Contracts
    This course will cover the Legal Process, Ethics, Court Structure, Interviewing, investigations, Research Skills, Document Preparation, Writing and Analysis, Lexis/Nexis and Westlaw.
  • Legal Skills, New York Procedure, Immigration Law and Notary Public Prep
    Students will take five substantive law classes during this section. These will include Torts, Contracts, New York Procedure, Criminal Law, and Immigration Law.

Students must successfully complete both courses to satisfy certificate requirements.
