The MPA Program at CCNY

The Colin Powell School’s master’s degree in public administration (MPA) prepares students for leadership roles in public service. We train students for management careers in nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and social enterprises. Graduates have gone on to impressive careers coordinating budget analysis at the White House, managing public health programs in developing countries, guiding the strategic planning of charitable foundations, advocating for disability rights, and creating social enterprises to address drug addiction, HIV prevention, and other pressing social challenges.

Practical Skills
Our curriculum focuses on practical skills and problem solving. Every class equips students with the most critical abilities to meet the management and leadership challenges of a diverse, complex world. Students are trained in budgeting, quantitative methods, human resources management, strategic communication and other areas necessary to turn their passion for social impact into successful change.

Personalized Experience and Support
Students move through the program with the same cohort of about 20 classmates. They form friendships and professional relationships that last beyond the program and aid career advancement. The small size of the program provides a personalized experience and attention from faculty and staff. In addition to tireless support, we offer students an unparalleled range of services, including dedicated career services, professional development coaching, and stipends for internships in New York City, Washington, DC and overseas. Our classroom and event space are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.

Unique Location
Set on a stately hill-top campus in the celebrated and culturally rich neighborhood of Harlem in upper Manhattan, the City College of New York is one of the most diverse campuses in the nation. It has produced more Nobel Laureates than any other public college in the US. As part of the Colin Powell School, we offer unrivaled access to policy makers, managers, and leaders tackling the major issues of the day, from immigration and inequality to public finances, sustainability, and debt.

We invite you to join our small, supportive community of learners and prepare yourselves to take on the challenges of the world. Watch our welcome video and hear directly from our students about their career paths, skill development, and unique paths through the program.
