Nancy Malloy

Profile

Nancy Malloy is an art historian specializing in 20th century and contemporary art who is currently Director of Artist Membership& the Annual Exhibition at the National Academy Museum where she works with the over 400 artist-members of the institution. She is a graduate of Fordham University and has a Ph.D. pending from The Graduate Center, City University of New York, in art history. Ms. Malloy has curated numerous exhibitions of contemporary art including the past seven Annual Exhibitions at the National Academy; Imprints: people, places, things, which was on experimental photography; and historic ones on Surrealism and Pop Art. She has published extensively including exhibition catalogues, articles, critical reviews for magazines like ARTnews, and several books including European Art Since 1850, a book on European modernism which was part of a history of art series; the essay for the book Tetsu Okuhara: Photographs; and A Research Guide to the Walter Pach Papers published by the Smithsonian Institution. Nancy Malloy has been teaching at City College, both the Main campus and CWE, for the past 10 years and has taught courses ranging from art history surveys to 20th Century Art; 19th and 20th Century Architecture; Women in World Art; The Arts of Africa, Asia and the Americas; Latin American Art; and History of Photography. Her numerous recent lectures include: Telling Stories: The Late Work of Philip Guston; Reframing Space: Installation Art; and Visionary Architecture and Sculpted Space at the National Academy Museum and Abstract Expressionism and Cold War Politics at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. She is currently working on a book entitled, The Political Eye: Art and Politics from the 1960s to the 1990s.
