Svetlana Bochman

Profile

  • Dr. Bochman's career at CUNY began in 1998, when she started working as a peer tutor at the Writing Center at Hunter College.  She served as part of the English Department faculty at CUNY for over 10 years, teaching everything from Developmental Writing at BMCC to advanced courses in literature at Hunter.  Her interest in humor studies inspired her to introduce a "Humor in Literature" course.
  •  Dr. Bochman has mentored tutors since 2006.  She served as Assistant Director of the Writing Center at Yeshiva University, training tutors in writing pedagogy, learning assessment, and best practice methods.  She also expanded services to include standardized test tutoring.
  • Prior to her appointment at City College, Dr. Bochman founded her own national writing and tutoring center to help students excel on the SAT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT and MCAT and write admissions essays to college, medical school, law school and other programs.  She developed curricula that improved her students' reading, writing and math scores dramatically.  Her admissions strategies helped students gain acceptance at Ivy League schools and other competitive programs.
