2018 S Jay Levy Internship Fair

S Jay Levy Fellowship for Future Leaders

2018 S Jay Levy Internship Fair

On Thursday, November 8th, 2018, the City College of New York hosted the fourth annual S Jay Levy Internship Fair. Thirty-eight organizations registered to participate and nearly 60 S Jay Levy Fellows gathered to explore summer internship opportunities during this event.

The S Jay Levy Fellowship for Future Leaders program was made possible through the generosity of the late S Jay Levy ’42 through the Jerome Levy Foundation. Mr. Levy was a noted economist and advocate of policies to increase employment opportunities. In this selective program, fellows participate in a year-long professional development process that culminates in a 280-hour summer internship. Fellows receive professional development training and a $4,200 stipend towards unpaid summer internships.

The Internship Fair allows S Jay Levy Fellows to meet with potential internship site partners in an action- packed day. Fellows represented majors across the campus including the sciences, engineering, architecture and political science. Participating organizations represented a wide swath of New York City industries. Leading companies and organizations across government, engineering, cultural institutions, public relations, technology, media and healthcare were present.

The morning to early afternoon programming consisted of two main portions: pre-scheduled meetings and ‘open tables’. Each fellow had the opportunity to pre-schedule up to nine 15 minute meetings with organizations that matched their majors, skills and/or career goals. During ‘open tables’, fellow were encouraged to meet with several other organizations to explore potential opportunities that they may not have otherwise considered. Industry representatives noted how well prepared students were in answering questions and in demonstrating that they had done their research on the organizations.
