The Basics

The goal of the STEM-CDI is to provide City College STEM students the skills, knowledge and experience they need to land a great, well paying first job or gain admission to the graduate professional school of their choice.  We feel that the key to this is serving in a good, industry relevant internship in the summer after your junior year.  The STEM-CDI will help you find, apply for and land that internship.

Students join the STEM-CDI in the fall of their sophomore or junior year.  Participants will spend the first year focused on an internship for the following summer.  They will learn everything they need do know to conduct a successful job/internship search.  They will also gain valuable experiences to add to their knowledge base and to their resumes so that they stand out a little more than you average student.  In their second year, fresh from their summer internship, they will begin working on the search for their first post college job.  Those whose next step is graduate school will have assistance with that search as well.  During the second year, participants will also have the opportunity to serve as a mentor to the new cohort of participants in their first year.

The five main components of the program are:

  1. Career Competencies
  2. Service Learning
  3. Internships
  4. Mentorship
  5. Internship Financial Support (Stipend)
