Hsu Wadi Nwel is a Biotechnology major at The City College of New York, earning her AS in Biotechnology from Queensborough Community College. Through undergraduate research in bioinformatics and structural biology, she has developed a strong interest in understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying human disease. Her research has focused on the structural analysis of proteins involved in neurological and metabolic diseases, including the NMDA receptor and Liver Fatty Acid Binding Protein (LFABP). Using computational methods and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, she has explored how protein structure and molecular interactions influence biological function. Hsu’s research interests lie at the intersection of structural biology, neuroscience, and translational medicine. She hopes to better understand how alterations in protein structure and cellular signaling contribute to disease and translate these discoveries into improved therapies. Following graduation, she plans to pursue an MD/PhD and a career as a physician-scientist, integrating biomedical research with patient care.
