Jeraldine Diyarza Flores
Spanish Major, Women’s and Gender Studies Minor
Mellon Mays Fellow
Jeraldine Diyarza Flores holds an AA in Spanish from Borough of Manhattan Community College and is pursuing a BA in Spanish with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies at The City College of New York. As a first-generation Mexican college student, her academic work is grounded in migration, cultural identity, and a commitment to representation in literature. Her research focuses on U.S. Latina literature written in Spanish, particularly contemporary works that explore identity, language, and space through experimental forms. She is deeply interested in feminist theory as a tool to examine how literature reflects and challenges systems of power, especially in relation to gender and displacement. Jeraldine plans to pursue graduate studies in creative writing and Latin American literature, with the goal of contributing to inclusive and critical literary scholarship through authorship, teaching and mentorship.
