CCNY Offers Architecture Summer Career Lab

New York City’s sole public school of architecture is offering pre-college and college-level students a sneak preview into the world of design and other architectural concepts, June 27 – July 29 at The City College of New York.

The five-week Architecture Summer Career Lab is presented by The Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture (SSA) at CCNY and coordinated by the College’s Continuing and Professional Studies (CPS) Program.

“The Lab is an excellent opportunity for prospective students and laymen to have an experience exploring architecture in an intimate, basic and comprehensible setting,” said George Ranalli, dean of SSA, the only such public architecture school in the city. “It will have an array of studies that involve design, history, technology, professional architects office visits, building visits and other lectures.”

SSA’s award-winning and internationally recognized faculty will run the Lab whose goal is to provide students with the practical experience required to make an informed and meaningful career choice.

“The idea is to offer students a real insight into architectural studies in a manageable, creative and exciting studio environment,” said Dean Ranalli. “It will give students the feel for an architectural school program so they might decide if they desire a career in architecture.”

The Lab is designed for high school juniors and seniors considering architecture as a major, as well as college-level students interested in pursuing a career in design.  Pre-college level courses are open to high school juniors and seniors 16 years or older while college and adult level applicants must be 18 years or older. No prior experience in architecture or design is necessary.

Sessions will be held five days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Participants will receive four college credits upon successful completion of the program.

There’s a $2,500 tuition fee for the program and a $50 registration fee. Application forms are available online at:www.ccny.cuny.edu/ace.
