Dr. Ashiwel Undieh, new associate provost for research at CCNY.
Dr. Ashiwel Undieh has been appointed associate provost for research at The City College of New York, the college announced today. In this role, he will have overall responsibility for promoting and expanding research and scholarship throughout the college.
He joins CCNY from Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, where he was professor and founding chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He also held appointments with Jefferson's graduate faculty, the Farber Institute for Neurosciences and the Kimmel Cancer Center.
"Dr. Undieh brings to the associate provost position a multidisciplinary background as well as an international and multicultural perspective on science and technology. This is in addition to his proven experience as a scientist, inventor, educator, and academic administrator," said CCNY Provost Maurizio Trevisan in announcing the appointment.
At Thomas Jefferson, Dr. Undieh built the pharmaceutical sciences research program to a national ranking of 45 out of 128 such programs in the United States. Previously, he taught at University of Maryland, Baltimore, from 1995 – 2007.
In his new role, Dr. Undieh will actively contribute to the development of programs and strategies for the realization of CCNY's comprehensive agenda for research innovation, collaboration, translation, and commercialization. He also has responsibility for research administration and for STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) graduate programs at City College.
Dr. Undieh received his BPharm and MPharm degrees at the University of Nigeria and his PhD at the Medical College of Pennsylvania.
