NOAA Satellite Conference Hosted by CCNY’s CREST Center

MEDIA ADVISORY

WHAT: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) conference, “A New Era of NOAA Environmental Satellites,” will be hosted by NOAA Cooperative Science Center for Earth System Sciences and Remote Sensing Technologies (CREST) at The City College of New York. Top public and private sector environmental satellite experts from around the world will meet to discuss how to best use data coming from next-generation weather satellites, such as NOAA’s GOES-R and the NOAA-NASA Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS).

The conference will start off with welcome remarks and logistics by the conference organizers, and followed by a welcome address by Interim President Vincent Boudreau. In the afternoon, guest speaker Al Roker will highlight some of the changes in broadcast TV meteorology since his start in the early 1970s, compared with today’s excitement and anticipation of this new generation of satellites.
