Writer Hasanthika Sirisena wins Juniper Prize

Hasanthika Sirisena, adjunct lecturer in creative writing at The City College of New York, has won the 2015 Juniper Prize for fiction for her short story collection “The Other One.” The book will be published in spring 2016 by the University of Massachusetts Press, which gives out the award. 


Sirisena’s stories have appeared in such publications as “Narrative,” “The Kenyon Review,” “Glimmer Train,” “Epoch” and “StoryQuarterly.” Her work has been anthologized in “Best New American Voices” and named a notable story by Best American Short Stories in 2011 and 2012. 

A 2006 alumna of the Division of Humanities and the Arts’ MFA program in creative writing at City College, Sirisena is a recipient of fellowships from the MacDowell Colony and Yaddo. She received the Rona Jaffe Writers Award in 2008. 

She also serves as associate fiction editor at the literary magazine “West Branch.”
