One of the world’s leading experts in the field, Jeffrey Morris of The City College of New York’s Grove School of Engineering, is the recipient of the 2023 Bingham Medal from the Society of Rheology (SOR). The Medal is the 93-year-old SOR’s highest award and is given annually to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the field of rheology. Pamela L. Laskin, director of The City College of New York’s Poetry Outreach Center, is celebrating her second consecutive Freedom Through Literacy Board Option Award from the Pennsylvania-based Judith’s Reading Room. A student team from The City College of New York’s Grove School of Engineering returned from the National Society of Black Engineers’ 49th annual conference in Kansas City, Missouri, as NSBE Small Chapter of the Year Award winners. Some 13,000 members from NSBE Chapters across six regions attended the five-day gathering at the Kansas City Convention Center. After three years of a virtual-only experience, Waffle Games 6.0 returns to New York City on April 15-16 at The City College of New York as a hybrid event. The gaming convention and conference celebrates the gaming industry as well as what it means to be involved in games, chase dreams and change the industry. The event is free and open to the public. The City College of New York and the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles have teamed up to create CCNY license plates so that alumni, staff, students, faculty and anyone who wants to display their CCNY pride have a new way to celebrate their school spirit. The idea came about at the start of planning for the 170th anniversary. The college was looking for unique ways to expand the campus's public visibility, including the establishment of “ Gear Up Tuesdays,” which encourages the college community to wear their favorite CCNY clothing and/or accessory every Tuesday. Cesar Conde, chairman of NBCUniversal News Group, is the inaugural recipient of the Colin L. Powell Distinguished Leadership Award, bestowed by the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at The City College of New York. Vanessa K. Valdés, associate provost for community engagement at The City College of New York, is co-curator of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s exhibition: Juan de Pareja, Afro-Hispanic Painter. The exhibit runs from April 3-July 16 and is co-curated by David Pullins, associate curator in The Met’s Department of European Painting.
