CCNY celebrates Black History Month with the 2024 Langston Hughes Festival and more

The City College of New York kicks off Black History Month with the 45th Annual Langston Hughes Festival presenting two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning author Colson Whitehead with the Langston Hughes Metal at a ceremony on Feb. 1 from 6-8 p.m. in Aaron Davis Hall. The medal is awarded to highly distinguished writers from the African American diaspora. Past award winners include: James Baldwin, Gwendolyn Brooks, Toni Morrison and more. CCNY’s Cybersecurity master’s program is designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense

The City College of New York has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) by the National Security Agency (NSA) for the Cybersecurity Master’s Degree Program in City College’s Grove School of Engineering. This designation will run through 2028. The NSA awards CAE-C designations to institutions that commit to producing cybersecurity professionals that will reduce vulnerabilities in the national infrastructure. Life Science Cares New York donates $50K to CCNY’s CiPASS initiatives

T he City College of New York’s Initiative to Promote Academic Success in STEM (CiPASS) is the recipient of a $50,000 grant from Life Science Cares New York to support student programming. In collaboration with the Division of Science’s Biology Department, CiPASS will use the grant to create and deliver hands-on, project-based lab skills and training workshops to at least 40 City College students. CCNY undergrads triumph at annual national STEM conference

Maintaining The City College of New York’s excellence at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists (ABRCMS), four CCNY undergraduates majoring in biomedical science emerged winners at the 2023 event in Phoenix, Arizona. The conference attracted more than 5,000 participants – including graduate students, researchers and scientists – in what was ABRCMS’s largest gathering in its 23-year history. The City College of New York launched the CUNY ACE Program (Accelerate, Complete, Engage) with its inaugural cohort of transfer students that started this fall.
