The City College of New York kicks off Black History Month with the 45th Annual Langston Hughes Festival presenting two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning author Colson Whitehead with the Langston Hughes Metal at a ceremony on Feb. 1 from 6-8 p.m. in Aaron Davis Hall. The City College of New York has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) by the National Security Agency (NSA) for the Cybersecurity Master’s Degree Program in City College’s Grove School of Engineering. This designation will run through 2028. The NSA awards CAE-C designations to institutions that commit to producing cybersecurity professionals that will reduce vulnerabilities in the national infrastructure. PRWeek names the Branding + Integrated Communications Master of Professional Studies Program (BIC) among its finalists for Outstanding Education Program of the Year. The winner will receive their award at the 2024 PRWeek Awards on March 14. T he City College of New York’s Initiative to Promote Academic Success in STEM (CiPASS) is the recipient of a $50,000 grant from Life Science Cares New York to support student programming. In collaboration with the Division of Science’s Biology Department, CiPASS will use the grant to create and deliver hands-on, project-based lab skills and training workshops to at least 40 City College students. CiPASS’s mission is to increase the number of underrepresented minorities studying STEM at CCNY by supporting them in their studies and providing resources and experiences to gain workplace skills

Maintaining The City College of New York’s excellence at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritized Scientists (ABRCMS), four CCNY undergraduates majoring in biomedical science emerged winners at the 2023 event in Phoenix, Arizona. The conference attracted more than 5,000 participants – including graduate students, researchers and scientists – in what was ABRCMS’s largest gathering in its 23-year history. All four CCNY winners participated in the City College of New York- Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center ( CCNY-MSKCC) Partnership’s PURT program in the summer. PURT

The City College of New York launched the CUNY ACE Program (Accelerate, Complete, Engage) with its inaugural cohort of transfer students that started this fall. ACE is a comprehensive program designed to help transfer students complete their bachelor’s degree in two years at an accelerated pace. Eight students from The City College of New York’s Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture have been awarded paid internships by CUNY’s Department of Facilities Planning, Construction and Management (FPCM). For the third year running, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) is proclaiming The City College of New York a Fulbright Hispanic–Serving Institution (HSI) Leader. ECA announced the top HSI leaders for 2023 during the International Plenary session of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) Annual Conference in Chicago today. The distinction is in recognition of the strong engagement of select HSIs with the Fulbright Program, the U.S. government's flagship international academic exchange program.
