Jennifer Roberts

Profile

Ph. D., Yale University, Professor of Classical Languages and History. She is particularly interested in Greek historiography, war and peace in antiquity, and political theory. She has edited the works of Herodotus and Thucydides, and her books include: Accountability in Athenian Government (1982); Athens on Trial: the Antidemocratic Tradition in Western Thought (1994); and Herodotus: A Very Short Introduction (2011). She is also the co-author of Ancient Greece: A Political, Social, and Cultural History, now in its third edition, and the co-editor of Recent Directions in the Military History of the Ancient World.
Her works have been translated into Spanish, Chinese and Modern Greek. She served for six years as president of the Association of Ancient Historians.
