CCNY's Greece Environmental Field Program is coming back — this time in winter! Previously offered during the summer, this immersive faculty-led program is directed by Angelo Lampousis, Ph.D., of the Department of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences, and introduces students to environmental monitoring methods applied in Mediterranean agricultural systems, with a particular focus on olive cultivation landscapes.
Students will receive hands-on training in field sampling techniques, environmental monitoring instrumentation, and data collection protocols in active olive groves. The program integrates environmental science, agriculture, food systems, and cultural heritage through collaboration with the American Farm School and Perrotis College in Thessaloniki.
Field activities will take place in olive oil farms across mainland Greece and include environmental monitoring exercises, olive harvesting during the seasonal harvest period, olive mill visits, and sensory evaluation training. Cultural activities will complement the academic component through visits to archaeological sites, museums, and UNESCO World Heritage monuments.
Winter 2027 dates and applications will be announced later this year — stay tuned!
