Study Italian language and culture in one of the most beautiful cities on the Adriatic Coast, Senigallia. Senigallia is a port town of the province of Ancona.  Its famous sands, also known as the “Velvet Beach" stretch across the north and south of the old town and city centre, is one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Italy and is overlooked by the Rotonda a Mare, the symbol of Senigallia. Senigallia has a long and rich history that dates back to before the Italian Renaissance, which can be seen through its architecture and many historical monuments. It is also an excellent place to enjoy delicious cuisine and meet some of the friendliest and most welcoming people.

This program is led and taught by Devid Paolini, Assistant Professor in Spanish/Italian. His research interests include Medieval Spanish and Italian Literature, Celestina, Theatre and Performance in the Renaissance, Humanism, and Renaissance in Spain and Italy. He has published articles and reviews in major journals on Gonzalo de Berceo, Coplas de Mingo RevulgoCelestina, and bibliography. In addition, Professor Paolini is the coordinator of the Italian Language Program of the Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures.

Courses

ITAL 31121- ITALIAN GRAMMAR

This is an intermediate course that focuses on Italian grammar. It is a fundamental and required course for Italian majors and minors as well as for students interested in improving their written language and conversational skills. The class will be conducted in Italian.

Course requirements: 

  • GPA 2.5 or higher
  • ITAL 123 (This course is suitable either for students who want to fulfill the language requirement or students who are looking for credits for their Major/Minor in Italian.)

ITAL 31122- ITALIAN CULTURE AND CIVILIZATION

This course is designed to provide students with a survey of the most significant moments of the Italian civilization, from its origins in the thirteenth century to the present. The course will be a journey through history, arts, and literature and will address major historical events, larger-than-life personalities, masterpieces of literature, drama, music, as well as the visual arts of this historical period.

Course requirements: 

  • GPA 2.5 or higher
  • ITAL 123 (This course is suitable either for students who want to fulfill the language requirement or students who are looking for credits for their Major/Minor in Italian.

Application Fee: $300
CCNY Tuition: 6 Credits
*Program Cost: $1,400
Airfare: $1,100 - $1,400 (estimated)

Program cost includes a 3-star hotel with a swimming pool, WiFi, AC, etc. Some excursions and some meals are included. Airfare and airport pick-up are not included.
