WEATHER

Guidance for Inclement Weather/ Severe Weather Plan – Outdoor ceremonies

All ceremonies will go on rain or shine.  Graduates and their guests should prepare for the possibility of inclement weather, bright sunlight, and extreme heat. If rain is forecasted on the day of any ceremony, graduates and guests should come prepared with appropriate attire.

In the event of heavy rain, an abbreviated ceremony should take place as long as it is safe to proceed. If there is severe weather, the ceremony will be canceled. Where possible this decision will be made in advance.

No indoor facility on campus is large enough to accommodate graduates and their guests from outdoor ceremonies.  This applies to the main commencement ceremony or any outdoor divisional ceremony.  If severe weather is anticipated and causes a delayed start to any ceremony, instructions will be announced.  If it is determined safe to proceed following a short delay, we will do so in a timely manner.  If no change is expected in the forecast after a delay of 1 hour, an announcement will be made canceling the ceremony. If a ceremony is interrupted by severe weather after it begins, graduates and guests should follow announced instructions.

Any delay or cancellation will be announced at the ceremony and posted to the college’s commencement page.

DURING THE CEREMONY

Please emphasize to your guests that aisles and walkways must remain clear and that they and you must remain seated during the entire ceremony and procession.
