SHAILA BORA
PHILOSOPHY MAJOR
CITY COLLEGE FELLOW

Shaila Bora was born in Glens Falls, New York. As a young adult, Shaila developed a passion for classical dance. This passion culminated in her first international tour to Russia at the age of 15 and her immediate relocation to New York City weeks after graduating from high school. As a dancer, being aware of the space one occupies and how it relates to the larger whole is second nature. Shaila could not avoid noticing the different ways in which individuals occupy space within their communities and how those interactions change the dynamics of that community. These observations eventually lead her to purse a double major in Philosophy and Literature at The City College of New York. The study of Philosophy allows exploration into the theories of the relationship between community and the individual, while Literature presents the opportunity to examine the community through the eyes of the individuals that belong to it. Shaila's interest is to continue to investigate these ideas, not as a traditional dichotomy of the community and the individual, but rather, as ideas that can function simultaneously together. Upon graduation, Shaila plans to matriculate into a PhD. Program in Philosophy.
