Students at CCNY, a perennial presence in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges rankings.
The City College of New York remains a top performer on social mobility, in the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges rankings, placing 18th out of more than 400 schools. Overall, CCNY is ranked #47 among Best Value Schools for In-State Students, a new category.
CCNY’s other top placings in the U.S. News 2027 rankings include:
- #79 in Top Public Schools;
- #102 in Undergraduate Engineering Programs (Doctorate);
- #134 in Best Value Schools;
- #140 in Undergraduate Economic Program;
- #156 in National Universities;
- #173 in Undergraduate Computer Science Programs; and
- #189 in Best Undergraduate Psychology.
At the graduate level, CCNY’s rankings are:
- #87 in Best Fine Arts Programs;
- #116 in Best Engineering Schools;
- #124 in Psychology;
- #127 in Clinical Psychology; and
- #159 in Physician Assistant.
Methodology
U.S. News & World Report's Best Colleges rankings provide a data-driven comparison of more than 1,700 colleges and universities using up to 17 measures of academic quality and graduate success.To be included in the Best Colleges directory, U.S. institutions must have a significant baccalaureate degree focus, hold regional accreditation and offer campus-based education. To receive an overall ranking, schools must also enroll at least 100 undergraduates, as well as at least 25 first-time, full-time bachelor's degree-seeking students over the past four years, and must award degrees not fully specialized in performing arts or faith-based education. U.S. News’ latest rankings follow The Princeton Review®’s recognition recently of CCNY as one of the nation's academically best undergraduate institutions.
Other recent accolades for CCNY include it being ranked in the top 2.2% out of 21,291 universities worldwide, according to the 2026 edition of the outcome-based Global 2000 list published by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) in June. CCNY has been consistently ranked in the top 2% for more than a decade.
