CCNY study abroad program expands to India

From Brazil and Seoul to Israel and Barcelona, The City College of New York offers many exotic and attractive study abroad destinations for students. Now add India to the mix. The Indian sub-continent is the latest international location to host City College students keen on   broadening their horizons.

The inaugural program takes 14 participants, both graduate and undergraduate, to New Delhi, January 1 – 13, 2017. A general study of education within the context of urban India, the intensive course offers three graduate credits.

“It incorporates interdisciplinary perspectives on education in India drawn from history, political science, spirituality, sociology, economics, arts and culture,” said Amita Gupta, chair of the CCNY School of Education’s Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture who will be the course instructor.

The impact of globalization and contemporary issues in education that inform Indian national policy will also be examined, added Gupta, a Fulbright Scholar, author and expert on South Asian education.

In addition to the classroom learning, students also visit sites of historical and architectural significance. The field trips will reinforce the course content and provide deeper insight into contemporary life in urban India.

“The idea of this program is to provide an in-depth experience in multicultural global education,” said Gupta.

With this new Indian component, CCNY’s  Office of Study Abroad and International Programs now offers study abroad opportunities to five continents.
