TV Journalist Jessica Abo Speaks at CCNY Student Event April 2

Journalist/actress inaugurates lecture series organized by YES (Youth Engaged Society)

Jessica Abo will be the inaugural speaker for a lecture series on giving back launched by a new City College of New York student organization known as "YES" (Youth Engaged Society). Ms. Abo has worked at NY1 News as an anchor and reporter. The event, which is free and open to the public, take places 12 noon, Wednesday, April 2, in Room 107, Shepard Hall, on the City College campus.

CCNY senior Oluwadamisi (Kay) Atanda organized YES as a non-profit organization to encourage volunteerism among City College undergraduates and to link them with internship and scholarship opportunities. The political science major said it was his way of giving back for the opportunities he's enjoyed at CCNY, which include a summer internship at the White House.

YES' goals include:

  • Promoting volunteerism by hosting community service-orientated events and maintaining a listing of volunteer activities in New York City;

  •  Organizing scholarship information sessions and compiling listings of U.S. and international scholarships available for undergraduate and graduate students;

  • Encouraging students to pair in-class activities with internship experiences.
